Stars’ Jamie Oleksiak suspended two games for head hit

Dallas Stars defenceman Jamie Oleksiak was suspended two games by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Sunday for an illegal check to the head.

Oleksiak made contact with Philadelphia’s Chris VandeVelde in the third period of Dallas’s 4-2 loss to the Flyers. VandeVelde was taking a shot on net when contact was made (video above).

The six-foot-seven, 255-pound Oleksiak wasn’t penalized on the play.

Oleksiak, who is Canadian swimming sensation Penny Oleksiak’s brother, has four points in 13 games this season for Dallas.
