Thomas Vanek returns to Red Wings on one-year deal

Thomas Vanek is returning to the Detroit Red Wings on a one-year deal worth $3 million.

The 34-year-old played 48 games in the Motor City during the 2016-17 season before being traded to the Florida Panthers at the deadline.

Vanek played in 80 games last season split between the Vancouver Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets, recording 24 total goals and 56 total points.

The 2003 first-round pick has played for eight different franchises since breaking out with the Buffalo Sabres in 2005-06. Vanek has racked up 357 goals and 753 points in 965 career NHL regular-season games.
