The Toronto Blue Jays will wait one more day before activating Addison Barger from the injured list.
Manager John Schneider told Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker during an appearance on Blair and Barker that Barger will likely be activated on Saturday as he is travelling to get back to the team.
The 26-year-old utility player was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain on April 7. The left-handed-hitting slugger sustained the injury while attempting to leg out an infield single in an early-April game against the Chicago White Sox, initially being diagnosed with bilateral ankle discomfort.
Prior to his injury, Barger had been struggling to produce at the plate, logging just one hit and three walks in 23 plate appearances.
Barger broke out for the Blue Jays in 2025 with 21 home runs, 74 RBIs and an .756 OPS. He added three homers, drove in nine runs and posted a 1.025 OPS during the Blue Jays' run to the World Series, including the first-ever pinch-hit grand slam in Game 1 of the Fall Classic.
In three rehab outings with the single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, Barger hit a pair of home runs.
Schneider mentioned that the team still hasn't determined who will be sent down to make room for Barger.
Starter Jose Berrios is also scheduled to visit Dr. Keith Meister on Tuesday for an in-person evaluation, according to Schneider. Berrios is currently dealing with inflammation in his throwing arm.
Berrios had an MRI after experiencing some discomfort following his last triple-A start.
Berrios last started Sunday for the Buffalo Bisons but struggled, pitching just 3.2 innings and allowing seven runs — including a grand slam — in his fourth rehab outing.
It was his second straight subpar start for the Bisons after allowing five earned runs and a pair of homers last Tuesday.
Berrios began the season on the injured list with a stress fracture in his elbow. He was seemingly healthy entering spring training, but as he went through a physical in an attempt to join Team Puerto Rico at the World Baseball Classic.
Schneider also provided an update on Max Scherzer, who received a cortisone shot in his right forearm and is expected to resume throwing after a five-day rest period.
Scherzer was placed on the 15-day IL on April 27 as he battles forearm tendinitis.
The Blue Jays are back in action on Friday after an off-day, taking on the Los Angeles Angels at home to begin a three-game set. Watch live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ at 7 p.m. ET.
