Mad Max is officially a Toronto Blue Jay.
The Blue Jays announced the signing of Max Scherzer to a one-year, $15.5-million deal on Tuesday.
Reports of the agreement surfaced last week, with Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reporting that the deal was pending a physical.
Everything seems to have checked out just fine, and the Blue Jays now officially have a three-time Cy Young Award winner as a member of their starting rotation.
The New York Post's Jon Heyman reported that Scherzer's one-year deal has a full no-trade clause and also comes with some performance bonuses.
Heyman reports that the 40-year-old future Hall-of-Fame candidate can make $150,000 for winning a Cy Young, $125,000 for finishing second, $100,000 for third $75,000 for fourth and $50,000 for fifth. Scherzer can also add $50,000 by being named an All-Star, $50,000 for a gold glove, $50,000 for a World Series MVP and $25,000 for an LCS MVP.
Scherzer spent last season with the Texas Rangers where he posted a 2-4 record with a 3.95 earned run average and 40 strikeouts, but missed much of the campaign due to injuries.
The six-foot-three product of St. Louis is a two-time World Series champion, having won with the Rangers in 2023 and the Washington Nationals in 2019.
His career regular-season record stands at 216-112 with a 3.16 ERA and 3,407 strikeouts.
