The Toronto Blue Jays have placed starting pitcher Hyun Jin Ryu on the 10-day injured list with a right glute strain and optioned first baseman Rowdy Tellez to the team's alternate training site.

Ryu suffered the injury during his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays after throwing a pitch. The 34-year-old is 1-2 with a 2.60 ERA and 26 strikeouts through 27.2 innings.

Tellez has struggled this season slashing .183/.222/.267 with a home run and three RBI in 18 games this season.

The moves come with George Springer being activated off the injured list in order to make his Blue Jays debut. Springer was listed as the designated hitter in the leadoff spot of the team's pre-game lineup.

Left-hander Travis Bergen was also recalled from the team's alternate training site and will be available for the series finale against the Washington Nationals.
