Fresh off his call-up to the majors, Sean Keys is now in line to make his Toronto Blue Jays debut.
The power hitter is active for Saturday's game against the Texas Rangers (Sportsnet, 3 p.m. ET / noon PT), batting sixth and playing first base, manager John Schneider told reporters before the outing.
In a corresponding move, Davis Schneider was optioned to triple-A Buffalo to open up a 26-man roster spot.
With Keys set to play first base, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will instead be the team's designated hitter, and George Springer is out of Saturday's lineup.
Additionally, the Blue Jays also announced that outfielder Yohendrick Pinago has been recalled from triple-A and will be active Saturday, while Jesus Sanchez has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain.
Keys, 23, has raked in the minors this season, bashing 24 home runs across 67 games in double-A and triple-A. Between the two levels, he's slashing .284/.409/.619 while splitting his time between first and third base.
Selected in the fourth round of the 2024 draft, Keys ranks 14th on MLB.com's Blue Jays prospect ranking.
Schneider, meanwhile, has struggled mightily at the plate this season, batting .153 with a .578 OPS and three home runs in 49 games.
