Daulton Varsho's return to game action will have to wait.
The Toronto Blue Jays centre-fielder felt hamstring tightness while running the bases on Monday as he works to recover from a grade-1 hamstring strain suffered at the end of May, Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling reported on Tuesday.
Varsho has been facing live pitching and taking ground balls, and will continue to do some in the wake of Monday's setback, but will stop running for now. Toronto will monitor his recovery in the coming days before resuming his ramp-up to a rehab assignment.
After a delayed start to his 2025 season, Varsho gave the Blue Jays a spark with his return, smacking eight home runs in 24 games and providing his Gold Glove-calibre defence in the outfield.
Zwelling also passed on a handful of other updates on rehabbing Blue Jays.
Alek Manoah threw 25 pitches over one inning of live batting practice on Tuesday as he builds back up after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year.
"It went really well," Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. "Velo was up to 95. Best he’s felt in a while."
The next step for Manoah will be a multiple-inning live batting practice session.
Ryan Burr, meanwhile, is scheduled to pitch for triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, his third rehab appearance since restarting his assignment following a setback. On Saturday, he struck out two in a clean inning of work for the Bisons.
Finally, Yimi García will pitch again for single-A Dunedin on Thursday. He began his rehab assignment with a scoreless inning for the Florida Complex League Blue Jays on Monday.
Schneider told reporters that if all goes well in that outing, García will make the jump to triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
