The Arizona Diamondbacks are exercising an abundance of caution with their young superstar.
Corbin Carroll will undergo an MRI on his left hand Monday after missing the Diamondbacks last four games with a hand contusion, Arizona manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Sunday.
Carroll, 24, was hit by a 91 m.p.h. sinker from Blue Jays left-hander Justin Bruihl on Wednesday. He stayed in to run the bases after but he was replaced before the bottom half of the eighth inning.
After a down season at the plate in 2024, Carroll was enjoying the best stretch of his career prior to the injury. The left-handed hitting outfielder has 20 home runs, 44 RBIs and a .255/.341/.573 slash line. He is top ten in the major leagues in both home runs and on-base plus slugging (.914).
After Carroll was first hit, Lovullo said X-rays did not reveal a fracture. Yet the Diamondbacks are looking to be thorough after catcher Gabriel Moreno played through a hairline fracture in his finger for a week, potentially sidelining him until after the All-Star break.
Lovullo added that Carroll was available off the bench on Friday, however he has not appeared in a game since being hit.
