Alek Thomas has found a new home in the NL West after being designated for assignment.
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired the outfielder from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for outfield prospect Jose Requena, Arizona announced Tuesday.
Thomas was DFA'd by the Diamondbacks last week after struggling at the plate through 28 games this season. He was batting .181 with a .563 OPS and two home runs prior to the transaction.
A former top prospect for Arizona, the 26-year-old has struggled to find consistency over his five years in MLB, posting a career .230 batting average and .634 OPS with 31 home runs in 448 games.
The D-backs originally selected Thomas in the second round of the 2018 MLB Amateur Draft out of high school.
Requena, a 17-year-old outfielder from Venezuela, was signed by the Dodgers as an international free agent in January. According to MLB's transactions log, he will be assigned to the Arizona Red in the Dominican Summer League.
