Tarik Skubal will face his former team this week, while Shohei Ohtani could also return to the mound against the Detroit Tigers.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Wednesday that Skubal will start Friday in Detroit, his first start against the team he won two Cy Young Awards with. The Dodgers acquired Skubal, a pending free agent, from the Tigers ahead of the trade deadline for three prospects.
Meanwhile, Roberts said Ohtani will throw a bullpen session on Friday and could start Sunday if that goes well. The two-way superstar last pitched on July 3 as he continues to manage knee and bicep injuries. The injuries have not prevented him from hitting.
Tyler Glasnow, who returned from his own injury on Tuesday, will piggyback on Ohtani's start or make the start himself if Ohtani is unable.
Skubal has a 1-2 record in four starts for the Dodgers, with a 3.38 ERA and 30 strikeouts.
Ohtani was on a Cy Young track before his injury, pitching to a 1.79 ERA with 95 strikeouts in 14 starts.
