The Baltimore Orioles lost their offensive engine in the eighth inning of Sunday's game against the Athletics.
Designated hitter Pete Alonso was forced to exit the game after being hit in the head by a 94.6 m.p.h. fastball from A's reliever Kade Morris.
Alonso got up under his own power and started to walk towards first base, but eventually turned around and made his way down the tunnel in the Baltimore dugout.
Jackson Holliday entered as a pinch-runner for Alonso and came around to score on Gunnar Henderson's RBI triple.
Orioles manager Craig Albernaz told reporters after the game that Alonso was OK and that the plan was for Holliday to pinch run anyway.
Alonso was 1-for-2 with a walk and a single before leaving.
The 31-year-old has been one of the bright spots in a disappointing Orioles season. After his four trips to the plate on Sunday, the five-time all-star is slashing .270/.360/.503 with 32 home runs on the season.
Alonso has particularly been a driving force for Baltimore in August, posting a 1.040 OPS with nine homers in the month as the Orioles look to stay in the American League wild-card chase.
