Middle infielder Ketel Marte has reportedly agreed to a contract extension with the Arizona Diamondbacks, putting to rest trade rumours that surrounded the player and team this off-season.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports the agreement is for five years and a total of $76-million, including $51 million in new money.

Marte, 28, has spent the past five seasons with the Diamondbacks. His best season came in 2019 when he finished fourth in NL MVP voting after hitting .329/.389/.592 and 32 home runs.

In 2021 he hit .318/.377/.532 with 14 home runs.

Marte had been subject to trade rumours in recent weeks and the Diamondbacks could have fetched a large return for the player, who was under team control until after the 2024 season. Now, he will stay in Arizona long-term.
