Roch Cholowsky is getting paid.
The No. 1 pick in the MLB draft is signing a record $10.35-million bonus with the Chicago White Sox, Jim Callis of MLB.com's MLB Pipeline reported on Tuesday.
Cholowsky's number breaks the previous mark of $9.3 million held by 2024 draftees Chase Burns and Charlie Condon.
A six-foot-two right-handed hitter, Cholowsky was a Golden Spikes finalist at UCLA and had a 1.088 OPS with 21 homers and 60 RBIs in his junior season. He was the Big Ten Player of the Year.
The shortstop said on draft day he was thrilled he'll be headed to Chicago, where he enjoyed a fruitful pre-draft meeting with team officials and mingled in the clubhouse of a team that has been perhaps the biggest surprise in baseball and entered the all-star break in first place in the AL Central.
“It really felt like to me like a college clubhouse," Cholowsky said. “It’s just a different feel in there.”
