Even though the trade deadline is over a month away, the San Francisco Giants appear to be open for business.
According to multiple reports on Monday, the Giants have made clear to opposing clubs that they are open to trade offers on some of their highest-paid players.
ESPN's Buster Olney reported that Matt Chapman, Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, Robbie Ray and Luis Arraez are among the players that San Francisco will listen on amid its disappointing 2026.
And while the Giants may be looking to shed payroll, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal wrote that the team "has zero plans to part" with ace Logan Webb.
Under new manager Tony Vitello, San Francisco stumbled out of the gate and hasn't been able to make up ground heading into the dog days of the season.
The Giants entered Monday sitting fourth in the NL West at 29-43 — 16 games back in the division and 9.0 games out of a final wild-card spot.
Rosenthal noted that, as pending free agents, Ray and Arraez would be the most obvious pieces for San Francisco to deal. He added that "it's doubtful" it could land a quality return for Devers (.706 OPS) and Adames (.692 OPS), who have struggled mightily in the Giants' infield while sporting mega-contracts.
Arraez has been a revelation so far on the West Coast. The three-time batting champ is hitting .319 with a pair of homers, but where he has really taken a step forward is on defence. The 29-year-old has never been an above-average defender in his eight-year career, and in 2026, he ranks second among all second basemen with a plus-8 fielding run value.
Ray, meanwhile, has a 4.42 ERA and 66 strikeouts over 14 starts.
Chapman fits somewhere in between, as he has been heating up in recent weeks, but still sees his OPS sitting at .762 while in the second season of a seven-year, $151-million extension. The deal also includes a full no-trade clause.
