The Boston Red Sox are down a key bat on Wednesday against the New York Yankees.
Outfielder Roman Anthony was not in Boston's lineup for the game, and manager Alex Cora told reporters that he was out for the night with a sore back.
The Red Sox expect Anthony to return on Thursday.
Anthony went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in Tuesday's series-opening loss.
It has been a slow start for the 21-year-old, who is slashing .225/.361/.325 with one homer in his first 22 games.
In 2025, Anthony finished third in AL Rookie of the Year voting after recording an .859 OPS and eight home runs in 71 games.
