Just days after defending his title by defeating Chan Sung Jung in the main event at UFC 163 in Rio de Janeiro, UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo was admitted to a hospital in Brazil Tuesday after being diagnosed with kidney stones.

It’s unknown exactly how long it will take for Aldo to fully recover from the kidney stones, which were first reported by UOL, though the UFC’s doctor in Brazil, Dr. Marcio Tannure, doesn’t believe it to be a serious medical issue.

Tannure told MMAFighting.com that he learned of Aldo’s condition from the champ’s coach Andre Pederneiras and that Aldo, 26, was taken to Copa D’Or Hospital in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro.

“He had renal calculus (kidney stones) before,” Tannure said. “He needs to send me the results of the exams so I can check it. Andre told me it’s not serious, and he probably already expelled the stones.”

Regardless of how quickly Aldo recovers from the stones, he will be on the shelf for at least the next couple months, as he was suspended by the Brazilian Athletic Commission for 90 days, 60 days with no contact, after fracturing his right foot on a kick he threw early in his fight with Jung.
