Fred VanVleet's first meeting of the free agency period will be with the Toronto Raptors on Friday at 6 p.m. ET in Los Angeles, Sportsnet's Michael Grange reports.
The Raptors' star point guard declined a $22.8-million player option for 2023-24 earlier this month.
Grange says there is some optimism that the Raptors can keep VanVleet if they offer him a four-year deal for around $30 million per season.
The Houston Rockets also are reportedly targeting VanVleet.
If the Raptors re-sign VanVleet, Grange reports it would help their chances of keeping fellow unrestricted free agent Jakob Poeltl.
