Vince Carter has been selected by players as the 2019-20 recipient of the NBA Sportsmanship Award, the league announced Thursday.

Carter, who retired in June following a record 22 seasons in the NBA, will be awarded the Joe Dumars Trophy – named for the winner of the inaugural Sportsmanship Award in 1995-96.

The 43-year-old Carter was one of six finalists (one per division), with the others being Oklahoma City Thunder centre Steven Adams, Sacramento Kings forward Harrison Barnes, Detroit Pistons guard Langston Galloway, Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyus Jones and Brooklyn Nets guard Garrett Temple.

More than 250 players submitted votes through confidential balloting, with Carter receiving 143 of 266 first-place votes. Temple and Adams finished in second and third place, respectively.

The former Toronto Raptors star finished his career with eight NBA All-Star selections, two All-NBA Team nods and won the 1998-99 rookie of the year. Carter has played the third-most games in NBA history (1,541) and is the only player to appear in a game in four different decades.
