The Boston Bruins have decided to stick with Don Sweeney, awarding their general manager with a "multi-year contract extension," according to a team announcement.

Sweeney has been the club's general manager since May of 2015, with the team posting a record of 313-162-61 in that period. While in charge, the 55-year-old has seen the Bruins make the playoffs in every season except his first. Boston lost in the Stanley Cup Final to the St. Louis Blues in 2019.

According to Frank Seravalli, Sweeney's contract was due to expire on June 30.

"Under his management, the Boston Bruins have been one of the winningest franchises in the league and a perennial playoff contender year in and year out," Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs said in a statement.

Sweeney, who was named General Manager of the Year in 2019, recently fired head coach Bruce Cassidy, who was in charge of the bench for all but the first year of his tenure.
