The Boston Bruins announced Friday that three of their defencemen have undergone procedures that will keep them out for months.

Top defenceman Charlie McAvoy, who led the team's blue line with 56 points in 78 games, has undergone a left shoulder procedure and is expected to recover in approximately six months — meaning he could be out of action until December.

Matt Grzelcyk underwent surgery on his right shoulder and is expected to take five months to recover, while Mike Reilly will miss approximately three months due to a right ankle procedure.

All three defencemen participated in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, where the Bruins lost in seven games to the Carolina Hurricanes. Grzelcyk missed Games 6 and 7, and it was announced he would need surgery after the series finished.
