The Vancouver Canucks are trading away a veteran blue-liner.
Marcus Pettersson is being dealt to the New York Rangers in exchange for a 2030 first-round pick, the team announced on Wednesday.
The pick will be top-10 protected, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports.
Pettersson elected to waive his no-movement clause to facilitate the trade.
The 30-year-old Swede spent a season-and-a-half in Vancouver after he was acquired ahead of the 2025 trade deadline from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
In an ironic twist, the Canucks sent the first-round pick they acquired from the Rangers in the J.T. Miller deal to the Penguins for Pettersson.
Pettersson played all 82 games for the last-place Canucks last season, recording three goals and 18 points while averaging 21:27 per game. For his career, he has 21 goals and 180 points in 604 games between the Canucks, Penguins and Anaheim Ducks.
