The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Wednesday that Michael Futa will be brought in as a senior consultant to the general manager.
“Michael brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our front office,” said Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell. “He knows what it takes to build a championship-caliber team, and we’re excited to add him to our organization.”
Futa comes to the Hurricanes with a plethora of experience working in the NHL. He started with the Los Angeles Kings in 2007, working as the co-director of amateur scouting until 2014. Then, he got promoted to vice president of hockey operations and director of player personnel. Futa received another promotion with the Kings in 2017, serving as assistant general manager. The Toronto native played an integral role in the Kings winning two Stanley Cups in 2012 and 2014.
Before joining the Kings, Futa worked as the general manager of the Owen Sound Attack in the Ontario Hockey League. He earned OHL Executive of the Year honours in 2004-05.
