The New Jersey Devils announced on Tuesday that team captain Nico Hischier underwent successful surgery on Monday afternoon to repair a frontal sinus fracture, and will be out for three more weeks.

Hischier's injury occurred on Feb. 27 in a game against the Washington Capitals. He was later put on injured reserve and entered the NHL's concussion protocol before being cleared.

The Swiss-born centre missed the first 11 games of the 2020-21 season with a leg injury, then was placed on the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list and managed to play just five games before getting injured again. He has two goals and one assist in his first season as captain.
