Calgary Flames centre Derek Ryan has been placed on waivers as he nears a return from a broken finger.
Ryan was injured blocking a shot in a game on Feb. 4 and has been out of the lineup ever since. He returned to practice on Sunday.
“He is skating. The biggest thing is how he can handle the puck,” head coach Geoff Ward said of Ryan after Sunday's skate, according to the Calgary Sun. “He’s been skating for a while now, his (fitness) should be fine. Ultimately, it’s how comfortable he feels with his hand on the stick and what he’s able to do with the puck.”
Ryan has one assist in 10 games this season. The Flames return to the ice Thursday at home against the Ottawa Senators.
