Hurricanes' Staal, Capitals' Mantha fined $5K for infractions

Carolina Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal has been fined $5,000 by the NHL's Department of Player Safety for a dangerous trip on Nashville Predators forward Luke Kunin.

The play occurred late in the second period as Staal swept his leg under Kunin, taking the Predators forward down to the ice. The Hurricanes captain received a tripping penalty on the play.

Washington Capitals forward Anthony Mantha was also handed a $5,000 fine for goalie interference against Boston Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask.

The play occurred late in the third period as Mantha skated into the crease and collided with Rask. The Capitals forward received a penalty on the play.
