The Buffalo Sabres recalled Aaron Dell from the AHL’s Rochester Americans and signed Michael Houser to a one-year, $750,000 contract Wednesday to help fill the void in net with four goaltenders injured.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen left Tuesday’s 6-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning after giving up two goals on nine shots in the first period. Luukkonen is listed as week-to-week with a lower-body injury.
Malcolm Subban came in for relief and finished the game, however, he’s also now out month-to-month due to an upper-body injury. Although the nature of Subban’s injury has not been disclosed, Lightning forward Pat Maroon received a two-minute goaltending interference penalty in the second period for colliding with the netminder.
The Sabres are also missing Dustin Tokarski, who was placed in COVID-19 protocol Dec. 2 and hasn’t been cleared to play yet, plus veteran Craig Anderson, who is out month-to-month since sustaining an upper-body injury Nov. 2.
Dell signed with Buffalo this season and has a 0-5-0 record, 4.52 GAA and 0.872 save percentage in seven games. The 32-year-old also holds a 5-0-0 record, 2.76 GAA and 0.910 save percentage in five games with Rochester.
Hauser, who posted a 2-2-0 mark in four games with the Sabres last season, has split this year between Rochester and the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL.
Buffalo also reassigned forward Jack Quinn and defenceman Casey Fitzgerald to Rochester.
