The Winnipeg Jets will have a big hole on their blue line to start the season.
Dylan Samberg will be sidelined six to eight weeks because of a broken wrist, coach Scott Arniel told reporters Monday.
Samberg suffered the injury in a pre-season game Saturday when he was hit by Ryan Lomberg of the Calgary Flames.
The six-foot-four native of Minnesota agreed to a three-year extension with an average annual value of $5.75 million with the Jets this past summer.
Samberg enjoyed a breakout campaign last season in Winnipeg, scoring a career-high six goals and 20 points while logging just over 21 minutes of ice time a night, nearly six minutes more than his previous best.
The 26-year-old blue-liner added another three helpers during the 2024-25 post-season while averaging over 24 minutes.
The six-foot-four, 216-pound Samberg was selected in the second round, 43rd overall in the 2017 draft by the Jets.
