The Seattle Kraken might be getting their captain back sometime soon.
Forward Jordan Eberle has been assigned to the American Hockey League's Coachella Valley Firebirds on a conditioning loan as he eyes a return from pelvic surgery, the Kraken announced Wednesday.
Eberle has been out since a Nov. 14 game against the Chicago Blackhawks in which he suffered the initial injury.
As he was chasing a puck into the offensive zone, he got tangled up with Blackhawks defender Connor Murphy, sending both of them hard into the end boards.
In 16 games for the Kraken this season, Eberle has six goals and 11 points, including one game-winner. The 34-year-old was named the second captain in franchise history, succeeding Mark Giordano, on Oct. 8.
He joined the Seattle squad in the expansion draft in 2021 after playing four years with the New York Islanders.
The Regina, Sask. native was originally drafted 22nd overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 2008. He spent the first seven years of his career in Northern Alberta.
When he does eventually return, he'll come back to a Seattle team that has struggled this season, They're currently 24-29-4 and sit seventh in the Pacific Division.
