Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl voted winner of Ted Lindsay Award by fellow players

Edmonton Oilers centre Leon Draisaitl has been named the 2019-20 most outstanding player in the eyes of his fellow players, winning the 2020 Ted Lindsay Award.

The Cologne, Germany native was the only player to top the century mark during the pandemic shortened season, posting 110 on the year to net his first scoring title. Teammate Connor McDavid finished second with 97 to his name, while David Pastrnak and Artemi Panarin tied for third with 95 points apiece.

With the Ted Lindsay Award win, Draisaitl becomes the fourth Oiler to be voted MVP by his fellow players. Wayne Gretzky netted those honours five times during his illustrious career, while Mark Messier did once and McDavid has won twice so far.

The Oilers have won the award second-most among all NHL clubs, and now sit just one back of the Pittsburgh Penguins in that regard, with Draisaitl’s win ranking as the organization’s ninth overall.

Already the first German player to ever win an NHL scoring title, Draisaitl is now the first of his countrymen to earn the Ted Lindsay, too. He tops Nathan MacKinnon and Artemi Panarin for the 2020 award.
