The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired forward Mikael Granlund from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2023 second-round draft pick.
Granlund, 31, spent his first seven seasons in the NHL with the Minnesota Wild after being drafted by the organization ninth overall at the 2010 draft.
During the 2018-2019 season, Granlund was traded to the Predators in the deal that saw the Wild acquire Kevin Fiala. In 58 games with Nashville this season, Granlund has recorded nine goals and 27 assists for a total of 36 points.
The Penguins cleared cap space prior to their move to acquire Garnlund, shipping forward Teddy Blueger to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for defenceman Peter DiLiberatore and a 2024 third-round pick.
Pittsburgh also assigned both defenceman Mark Friedman and forward Brock McGinn to the AHL. The combination of moves allowed them to take on Granlund's contract, as he is currently signed through the 2024-25 season and carries an average annual value of $5 million per year.
