The San Jose Sharks continue to stockpile elite talent.
The Sharks selected Swedish forward Ivar Stenberg with the No. 2 pick before adding North Dakota defenceman Keaton Verhoeff at No. 9 in Friday’s NHL Draft.
Stenberg, 18, had 11 goals and 33 points in 43 games for Frolunda in Sweden’s SHL last season.
The Sharks were picking in the top two for the third year in a row after moving up from the ninth-best odds in the NHL Draft lottery.
Verhoeff, a native of Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., spent last season with the Fighting Hawks after the NCAA opened their ranks to allow CHLers to play college hockey. In 36 games, the freshman had six goals and 20 points.
Prior to joining the University of North Dakota, Verhoeff spent time with the WHL’s Victoria Royals, amassing 21 goals and 47 points in 75 games spread over two seasons.
In 2024, the Sharks selected Macklin Celebrini first overall and in 2025 they took Michael Misa with the No. 2 pick.
Stenberg's brother, Otto, was selected 25th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2023 draft.
