After a busy couple of days at the NHL Draft, boosting their prospect pipeline, the San Jose Sharks are investing a bit more in their youth movement.
The Sharks have signed centre Zack Ostapchuk to a four-year, $9.4 million contract extension worth $2.35 million in average annual value, the team announced Saturday.
Ostapchuk, 23, had a career-best season in Northern California, finishing with four goals and three assists in 59 games while adding 29 blocked shots and 140 hits, the third most among Sharks skaters.
A native of St. Albert, Alta., Ostapchuk won 51.6 per cent of his face-offs and skated an average of 10:06 ice time per night.
Drafted 39th overall by the Senators in 2021, the Sharks acquired Ostapchuk via trade at the 2025 deadline in the deal that sent Fabian Zetterland to Ottawa.
Over 122 career games at the NHL level, split between the Senators and Sharks, the six-foot-four centre has five goals and six assists.
