Ciryl Gane revealed he did in fact sustain a significant foot injury during his controversial win over Alexander Volkov at UFC 310.
The one-time interim heavyweight titleholder posted on social media Monday a photo of an x-ray of his left foot that showed multiple fractures.
Gane wrote that he broke his big toe and both metatarsals early in the fight but fought through the injuries and did not give up.
The French fighter said in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan he was disappointed in his performance and pointed out his injured foot.
Gane has now won two consecutive bouts following his disappointing effort in his title fight loss to Jon Jones at UFC 285 in March of 2023. It is unclear how long the 34-year-old will be out of action and what type of opponent he’ll get in his return.
Most of the UFC 310 audience in attendance at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and those watching at home thought Volkov should’ve gotten his hand raised after 15 minutes, however, two of three judges gave Gane the opening two rounds of the three-round contest.
UFC president Dana White went out of his way to speak to Volkov after the fight, telling the 6-foot-7 Russian, who was denied a fifth consecutive win, he did not agree with the decision.
“You got (expletive),” White told Volkov cage-side as Rogan interviewed Gane. “I don’t know what we’ll do but we’ll try to make it right. The whole (expletive) arena thought you won.”
