Fight fans north of the border have been given one more reason to tune into UFC 319 come August.
On Thursday, the promotion announced a women's strawweight bout between Vancouver's Lupita (Loopy) Godinez and former champion Jessica Andrade for the upcoming pay-per-view card in Chicago.
Godinez (13-5-0) enters the matchup having won five of her last seven appearances. The Mexican-Canadian's latest victory — a unanimous decision over Julia Polastri in March — not only snapped a two-fight losing streak but also pushed her up to No. 11 on the 115-pound leaderboard.
While born in Mexico, Godinez moved to Canada as a teen and is now a dual citizen fighting out of Vancouver. Two of her younger sisters, Karla and Ana Godinez, are also accomplished mixed martial artists, both having competed for the Canadian national wrestling team.
Meanwhile, Andrade (26-14-0) will hope for a better outcome than her last time facing a fighter from Canada. The former strawweight champ is on a two-fight skid, most recently getting submitted by St. Catharines, Ont.'s Jasmine Jasudavicius at UFC 315 in Montreal.
The Brazilian hasn't seen her hand raised in over a year. Her last victory came via a split decision over Marina Rodriguez at UFC 300.
Now the ranked contenders join a UFC 319 card that only has one other fight announced thus far — a main event bout between middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis and No. 3-ranked challenger Khamzat Chimaev.
UFC 319 is scheduled for Aug. 16 from the Windy City's United Center.
