Canucks agree to purchase AHL’s Rivermen

Canucks Sports & Entertainment agreed to purchase the American Hockey League’s Peoria Rivermen franchise from the St. Louis Blues.

Canucks Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Vancouver Canucks announced Monday the organization has agreed to purchase the American Hockey League’s Peoria Rivermen franchise from the St. Louis Blues.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the Canucks,” Canucks Sports & Entertainment owner and chairman Francesco Aquilini said. “The purchase of the Peoria franchise allows us to take an important step and assume full control of our minor league development program.”

Since the transaction is subject to approval by the AHL, the Canucks and Blues were unable to provide any further details.
