SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Riley Sheahan scored 12 minutes into the third period as the Grand Rapids Griffins beat the Syracuse Crunch 3-1 in Game 1 of the Calder Cup final Saturday.
Mitch Callahan scored in the first for Grand Rapids, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. Gustav Nyquist added an empty-net goal for the Griffins, while Petr Mrazek made 28 saves for the win.
Jean-Philippe Cote replied for Syracuse, the minor-league team of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Cedrick Desjardins stopped 18 shots for the Crunch.
Game 2 is in Syracuse, N.Y., on Sunday.
