Monster out indefinitely, facing more surgery

Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonas Gustavsson will undergo another procedure to correct an irregular heart beat, sources tell Sportsnet, similar to the one he had performed during training camp.

Gustavsson met with cardiac specialists in Toronto on Wednesday and it’s expected he will have the surgery on Friday at the earliest. He missed three weeks of training camp after the first procedure and it’s believed he will be looking at the same timeframe again should doctors feel comfortable that they can rectify the problem.

The Swedish rookie was taken to hospital as a precautionary move with an elevated heart rate after the first period of Toronto’s 3-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday. Gustavsson was examined at a Montreal hospital before being released.

"We’re just being ultra-cautious," said Leafs GM Brian Burke.
