Schaefer headed to camp with Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks have invited free agent forward Peter Schaefer to camp.

Schaefer, who played for the team from 1998-2001, spent last season out of hockey after having the final year of his contract bought out by the Boston Bruins following the 2008-09 season.

The 33-year-old, first appeared in a Canucks’ uniform in 1998–99. Schaefer played for the Canucks for two more seasons before heading across the pond to play in Finland for a couple of seasons.

In the summmer of 2003, the Canucks shipped Schaefer to Ottawa for defenceman Sami Salo.

The 33-year-old has appeared in 556 NHL games for the Bruins, Canucks and Senators. He has scored 98 goals while setting up another 161.
