Not exactly the ideal way to honour Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
A total of one second into the Tampa Bay Lightning-New York Islanders holiday matinee Monday, fans – at least those who had a chance to assume their seats – were greeted with a flurry of fists as four players dropped eight gloves right off the game’s opening draw.
One second in, Matt Martin squares off with B.J. Crombeen and Finley fights Labrie. Then McDonald & Malone get 2 each for Unsportsmanlikes. — NYIslanders (@NYIslanders) January 21, 2013

The Isles Matt Martin squared off with Tampa Bay’s B.J. Crombeen, and New York’s Joe Finley chucked knuckles with the Lightning’s Pierre-Cedric Labrie. Immediately Colin McDonald and Ryan Malone chipped in with unsportsmanlike conduct minors.
That would be 24 PIMs in one second, for those scoring at home.
Funny, the Islanders entered Monday’s game as the league’s most peaceful, having only committed a single minor penalty over the NHL’s opening weekend.
