Guerrero Jr. earns weekly honours after lighting it up with Bisons

Watch as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. continues to torment Triple A pitching.

To no one’s surprise, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been named International League Batter of the Week.

The third baseman has been lighting it up with the Buffalo Bisons ever since being called up to triple-A at the end of July.

Guerrero Jr. was seeing everything at the plate over the past week, registering 11 hits, five RBIs, a 1.000 slugging percentage, and also had a stretch during which he hit four home runs in as many nights. Eight of those 11 hits occurred during a three-game series with the Gwinnett Stripers before his paced slowed slightly in three games against the Toledo Mud Hens. The top Toronto Blue Jays prospect had a five-game hitting streak snapped Sunday.

Guerrero Jr. is currently ranked as the top prospect in all of baseball and the 19-year-old is playing well beyond his years.

“He looks like a guy who goes to the plate looking for a good pitch to hit and that’s all I’ve seen so far,” Bisons manager Bobby Meacham told Sportsnet 590 last week, one day prior to the start of Guerrero Jr.’s four-game HR streak. “Every at-bat of his, whether they’re pitching him in or trying to make him chase, he’s handled it really well.”

The Bisons begin a three-game road series against the Charlotte Knights Monday.
