Glenn Howard and Winnipeg’s Jeff Stoughton are tied 3-3 in the extra end of the Masters Grand Slam of Curling semifinals Saturday in Abbotsford, B.C.

The Penetanguishene, Ont., native scored a single in the first and stole one in the second after Stoughton’s final stone missed Howard’s shot rock and sailed clear through the house.

Stoughton settled for one in the fourth to get on the scoreboard.

Howard’s final stone in the eighth rolled heavy and Stoughton stole one to tie it.

Howard has won the Masters five times while Stoughton won the event in 2004.

Edmonton’s Kevin Martin avenged an opening-round upset to beat China’s Rui Liu 4-2 and reach the Masters final.

Liu held the hammer in the final end but ran out of rocks and couldn’t top the 14-time Grand Slam champion.

The match didn’t go Liu’s way at all. His final shots in the first and seventh sailed through the house and he gave up single steals in both ends.

Martin fell 7-6 in extra ends to Liu during the opening draw of the round-robin but has now won five in a row heading into Sunday’s finale.
