Oilers’ Kassian to have hearing for altercation with Flames’ Tkachuk
Zack Kassian finally lost his cool after Matthew Tkachuk nailed him with another huge hit, resulting in the Oilers forward getting the better of his opponent in a one-sided fight.
Edmonton Oilers forward Zack Kassian will have a hearing Monday after an altercation with Calgary Flames winger Matthew Tkachuk during the second period of their matchup Saturday, the NHL’s department of player safety announced Sunday.
Edmonton’s Zack Kassian will have a hearing Monday for Roughing/Aggressor on Calgary’s Matthew Tkachuk.
Kassian took offence to a hit from the Flames pest, started punching Tkachuk and tossed him to the ice twice. Kassian received a double-minor for roughing as well as a 10-minute misconduct.
The NHL's Department of Player Safety tells ESPN there will be no discipline on Tkachuk: "Both hits delivered on Kassian were legal, full body checks delivered to a player carrying the puck." Kassian will have a hearing Monday for Roughing/Aggressor in going after Tkachuk.
“He’s just a young punk that has to figure that aspect out in the game,” Kassian said of Tkachuk after the game. “It’s sad because he’s a pretty good player but he’s a (expletive).”
The Flames’ Elias Lindholm scored his second goal of the night on the ensuing power play as Calgary edged the Oilers 4-3.
