Panthers bring back veteran forward Troy Brouwer on PTO

Troy Brouwer makes it 4-0 for Florida as he finishes off a pretty tic-tac-toe passing play.

The Florida Panthers have signed veteran winger Troy Brouwer to a professional tryout, the club announced Wednesday.

The 34-year-old spent the 2018-19 season with the Panthers, posting 12 goals and 21 points over 75 games for the club. Prior to his stint in Florida, the right winger logged five years with the Chicago Blackhawks, four years with the Washington Capitals, one year with the St. Louis Blues and two seasons with the Calgary Flames.

Brouwer’s best years came with the Capitals, with whom he posted four of his five best goal-scoring campaigns and saw the most ice-time of his career. The Vancouver, B.C., native reached the 20-goal plateau three times during his career, and finished in the 20-goal range seven years in total over his 13-year NHL career.

The veteran hasn’t topped the 15-goal mark since 2015-16, however, as his ice-time has steadily declined.

Brouwer played out an $850,000 deal with the Panthers last season after the Flames bought out the final season of his four-year, $18-million deal in August 2018.

Florida currently has $781,331 in projected cap space, according to CapFriendly, with all of the team’s free agents currently inked for the 2019-20 season.
