The San Jose Sharks have signed forward Zachary Gallant to a standard, entry-level contract, the team announced Tuesday.
Gallant, 20, was the captain for the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He recorded 13 goals and 25 points in 30 games last season.
“Zachary is an up and coming center who can use his size to create space in the offensive zone,” said Sharks general manager Doug Wilson in a press release. “He will be re-joining the Peterborough Petes to captain one of the top teams in the OHL. We are excited to watch him develop his skills as a power forward under head coach Rob Wilson as he continues to be a leader for his club next season.”
Before the 2018-19 season, Gallant posted 50 goals and 107 points in 195 career games with the Petes.
The London, Ont. native was originally selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft, 83rd overall.
