The Toronto Blue Jays' already ailing rotation has received more bad news.
Dylan Cease left Toronto's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday in the fifth inning with an apparent injury.
The hard-throwing righty received a visit on the mound from Blue Jays manager John Schneider and team trainers after striking out Jared Triolo with an outside slider for the first out of the inning.
Cease, 30, appeared to be attempting to shake out his legs while he threw a few warmup pitches.
He remained in the game for one more batter, inducing a line out from Spencer Horwitz, but was ultimately removed from the game after 4.2 innings.
Cease allowed two earned runs — on a pair of solo homers from Horwitz and O'Neal Cruz — and struck out eight.
The Blue Jays have a number of starting pitchers on the injured list.
Shane Bieber and Max Scherzer are both currently working their way back from injuries. Cody Ponce is likely to miss the season with after undergoing ACL surgery and Jose Berrios is set for a 12-18 month recovery time from Tommy John surgery.
