Bo Bichette appears to have taken a step forward in his rehab.
The Toronto Blue Jays shortstop jogged in the outfield at Yankee Stadium ahead of Game 4 on Wednesday, Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reported.
Bichette, who was not included on the ALDS roster as he deals with a knee sprain, has made progress in recent days, per Nicholson-Smith. Bichette hit yesterday in a simulated game, though is still considered day-to-day.
Nicholson-Smith further reported that it remains unclear whether Bichette would join the Blue Jays' roster if they advance to the ALCS.
The 27-year-old suffered the injury on Sept. 6 — ironically, at Yankee Stadium — and had been doing some light workouts to try to work his way back to the field. Manager John Schneider said Saturday that Bichette had yet to begin running or facing velocity.
Although he is ineligible to play against the Yankees, Bichette’s return would provide a much-needed boost at the plate if the Blue Jays advance. He was slashing .311/.357/.483 through 139 games while leading MLB in hits and doubles before the injury.
Toronto, which leads the series 2-1, can punch its ticket to the ALCS with a win in Wednesday's Game 4.
First pitch is slated for 7:08 p.m. ET / 4:08 p.m. PT with live coverage on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
