Arizona Diamondbacks starter Jordan Montgomery has fired star agent Scott Boras and is joining Wasserman's Joel Wolfe and Nick Chanock, ESPN's Kiley McDaniel reported Thursday.
Montgomery was one of four Boras clients who did not get a big contract this past off-season. The 31-year-old agreed to a one-year, $25-million deal with the Diamondbacks on March 28.
His contract also includes a 2025 vesting player option for $20 million, which vests at 10 starts and can escalate to $25 million if he starts 23 games.
Montgomery expected to sign a long-term deal, with projections suggesting he could get around five years, $106 million.
Montgomery went 10-11 with a 3.20 ERA over 188.2 innings with the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers. He had a strong post-season, recording a 2.90 ERA and a 3-1 record in 31 innings to help the Rangers win the World Series.
Along with Montgomery, Boras clients Cody Bellinger, Matt Chapman and Blake Snell had to settle for deals late in spring training.
