The Minnesota Twins will hope that their star centre-fielder isn't headed for a stint on the injured list.
Byron Buxton was forced to exit Tuesday's game against the Athletics in the bottom of the seventh after appearing to injure himself while reaching to field a ball off the bat of Henry Bolte.
Buxton immediately stiffened up as Bolte legged out a triple and would eventually leave the game with a trainer.
Trevor Larnach entered to take Buxton's spot in the lineup while taking over in left field. As a result, Luke Keaschall shifted from right to centre and Kody Clemens moved from left to right.
It wasn't clear what exactly caused Buxton to exit, but he has already missed time this season with a hip impingement.
The three-time all-star was 0-for-3 with three strikeouts on Tuesday before departing.
Over his first 92 games of the season, Buxton slashed .256/.321/.515 with 25 home runs and 46 RBIs.
Should Buxton be forced onto the injured list for a third time this season, it would be a significant blow to a Twins club still battling for a playoff spot in the American League.
After going on to lose Tuesday, Minnesota was 2.5 games back of the third wild-card spot and 5.5 games back of the top spot in the AL Central.
