The San Francisco 49ers' receiver core has gotten a little thinner.
Rookie wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling has been placed on injured reserve after injuring his ankle, while tight end Jake Tonges has been placed on IR after suffering an MCL injury in the 49ers' Week 1 win against the Los Angeles Rams, the team announced on Wednesday.
Stribling was held without a target or catch in his first-ever NFL game before being carted off the field in the second quarter with the non-contact injury.
Tonges was also held without a catch.
Despite worries about it being an Achilles injury, head coach Kyle Shanahan said post-game that Stribling's Achilles was still intact.
Stribling was drafted 33rd overall by the 49ers in the 2026 draft out of Ole Miss, and was expected to earn a big role in the offence entering the season.
Last season, Tonges appeared in all 17 games for the 49ers, recording 34 receptions for 293 yards and five touchdowns.
They will both miss at least four games.
In a corresponding move, San Francisco promoted WR KhaDarel Hodgeto the active roster and signed TE Jack Stoll to the team’s practice squad.
