Vancouver Canucks defenceman Travis Hamonic is in the lineup and making his season debut Tuesday night against the New York Rangers.

Hamonic missed training camp and the first month of the season while he was away from the team for personal reasons.

“I've been very forthcoming with a lot of aspects of my life, but this is something that's pretty personal,” he said Monday after rejoining his teammates for practice. “...I'm just trying to do what's right for me and my family and get through this time, and I'm happy to be here. The hardest part about what I've been going through is that I haven't been around. Today was one of the best days I've had in a long time being on the ice with the guys and being back out there.”

Hamonic had one assist in a game with the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks on the weekend. He signed new two-year, $6-million contract with the Canucks in the off-season and is entering the 12th season of his career.
